Nigerian fraudster gangs

Nigerian fraudster gangs

How to recognise correspondence from fraudster gangs:
  • Address usually handwritten
  • Usually in English
  • Impersonal address
  • Usually Nigerian or other African sender
  • Composed on obviously counterfeit stationery
  • Photocopied letters in bulk mailing
  • Marked with catchwords such as “urgent” or “strictly confidential”
  • High sums of money mentioned
  • Profits of 15% to 35% promised
Protection against fraudster gangs:
  • Never reply to this type of correspondence so as to ensure that the fraudsters cannot get hold of signatures, bank details or telephone numbers.
  • Delete emails or send letters to the Federal Office of Police (BAP).
  • If you have business relations with Nigerian business people, make enquiries with the Swiss Central Office for Trade Promotion (Zentrale für Handelsförderung), the Swiss embassy in Lagos or its bank.
